Former Philly Prison Guard Accused Of Smuggling Drugs, Cell Phones

PHILADELPHIA -

A former Philadelphia prison guard was charged Tuesday by U.S. Attorney Zane David Memeger for allegedly working with a prisoner to smuggle in drugs, tobacco and cell phones.

According to the U.S. Attorney, 35-year-old Dion Reid of Philadelphia is accused of conspiring with a prisoner inside a Philadelphia prison to smuggle in marijuana, Xanax pills, tobacco and cell phones.

Investigators say Reid was formally employed by the Philadelphia Prison System.

If convicted, Reid could face as many as 50 years in prison and a $1 million fine.

Philadelphia police, the FBI and members of the City Office of Inspector General were involved in the investigation.
