LEHIGH VALLEY, Pa. -
New technology introduced Tuesday at Lehigh Valley Health Network will allow parents and family members of babies in the hospital's neonatal intensive care unit view even the tiniest of babies 24 hours a day.
The technology was unveiled Tuesday in the Kasych Family Pavilion.
Hospital administrators call it the "BabyCam/AngelEye." The new camera allows parents to view their babies on their computer or smart phone through a webcam system that was developed by the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.
The system uses a camera that is placed at the baby's bedside in the NICU.
The hospital says the new technology will helps to promote bonding between parents and their premature babies.
In many cases, premature babies can remain hospitalized for weeks or months.
