Cats saved after storm now up for adoption in Brooklyn

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

UPDATED: ASPCA and One Love Animal Hospital are hosting an adoption event in Brooklyn for dozens of cats that need a home after Superstorm Sandy hit.

The event is being held at One Love Animal Hospital in Boerum Hill on Sunday, February 10, from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The adoption event originally scheduled for Saturday has been canceled because of the blizzard.

The ASPCA's Cruelty Intervention Advocacy team had been monitoring an animal hoarding situation in Coney Island. When the storm hit, team members decided the situation at the home could quickly develop into a crisis so they rescued the 30 cats.

"The ASPCA is thrilled that these resilient cats are ready for loving homes, and just in time for Valentine's Day," said Allison Cardona, director of the ASPCA's Cruelty Intervention Advocacy program. "We are grateful to One Love Animal Clinic for providing boarding and medical care over the past three months, and we encourage anyone who has been considering adoption and has a fondness for felines to come to this event."

Adoption fees will be waived at this event, the ASPCA said. The cats will be spayed or neutered, micro-chipped, vaccinated, behaviorally assessed, and given an ID tag free of charge.

If you're interesting in adopting, you should bring a government-issued photo ID, proof of address, and contact information for a personal reference. You must be at least 21.
