Two good Samaritans rushed to help catch a bad guy who had just snatched a woman's purse, but he didn't get very far.
Police say the elderly woman was leaving the Dollar Tree on 8 mile at Wyoming in Ferndale when she was ripped off. Investigators say the 20-year-old man ran up to her and stole her purse but two other guys who were shopping in the area saw it all go down and chased the guy through the parking lot on 8 mile.
One of the men tackled the purse snatcher and both good Samaritans sat on the bad guy and called police.
It all happened in front of a group of 12-year-olds, including Reginald who was coming home from basketball practice. "We seen a man steal a woman's purse, the woman screamed, and two other men started chasing him, one said you can't run from me" Reginald said.
Detective Sgt. Chad Allan of the Oakland County Sheriff's Office said, "When the deputies arrived they found the citizens holding the suspect and he was arrested without incident."
People in the area had mixed feelings about the idea of chasing the purse thief. Calvin Baskin said he was proud of the good Samaritans, saying we need people like that out here. Others we spoke with said it might not be a good idea to chase the guy because you have no idea what weapon he may have on him.
The 20-year-old suspect has addresses in Detroit and the state of Georgia. He's being held in the Oakland County Jail and will be arraigned on Thursday.
