SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -

She's 71 years old and in very critical condition after her bike collided with a car in south Scottsdale.

Friday, her children told us a little bit more about Ginette McKeehan -- the special place she has in their hearts and the hearts of so many other people in the valley.

Ginette was born and raised in France. She never lost her distinctive French accent, even though she moved to Scottsdale long ago.

The accident happened at Granite Reef and McDowell, close to the Granite Reef Senior Center, where Ginette was a fixture, known and loved by all. Seems everyone who met Ginette McKeehan liked her.

"I always think of her as a social butterfly, she loved to socialize with people. She had no filters, she didn't care who you are, she would talk to you," says daughter Michaela Judah.

"At Fry's she would just see somebody walking, a young lady, stop her and tell her how beautiful she was and she would just make people smile," says son Michael McKeehan.

"Loves children, loves children, the best grandma in the whole world. I do not know many grandmas that go down slides at McDonald's with their grandbabies," says Judah.

After the accident Ginette's kids found a letter in her purse.

"It was written to us and it said, ‘if you are reading this now I have been in a bad accident and it was my bad luck in my life and I want you all to know that I love you very much,' and it is almost like she knew she knew this was going to happen," says McKeehan.

A car turning right on a red light hit Ginette as she was riding against traffic on McDowell Road on Monday. The driver was not cited.

Ginette was not wearing a helmet.

Her loved ones are getting out the message: any time you're on a bike, wear a helmet: it could save your life.
