Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Lots of tails were wagging at Pier 92, Pier 94 and at Madison Square Garden. The 137th annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show began Monday morning. More than 200 dogs are vying to win the title Best in Show.

We went backstage at the garden to see all of the pooches.

Out of all the dogs around the world the most entries came from New York: a total of 287!

187 breeds are being represented in the show this year. Each dog competed against their breed to win the coveted title of Best of Breed.

The competitors were in the hound, toy, non-sporting, and the herding breed categories. We saw some really cute dogs some of my favorites were a chow chow, keeshond, basenji and a Maltese.

Also this year, two new breeds are competing: the treeing walker coonhound and the Russell terrier.

All the dogs from Monday are competing to win Best in Group.

Then Tuesday the sporting, working and terrier breeds compete for Best of Breed.

Then once they have all the group winners they will compete for Best in Show.

The winner gets the title of America's dog, does a media tour, and has a steak dinner at Sardi's.
