Valentine's Day is game day for valley florists

Posted: Updated:

One place that needs no reminder of Valentine's Day is Arizona Family Florist. They're expected to make 3,000 deliveries in the valley Thursday.

In the midst of their planning and preparation, we toured the 13,000 square foot facility.

Workers are expected to be here throughout the night, putting the final touches on orders (that are still coming in by the way).

We were here earlier when it was bustling. The manager says Valentine's Day and Mother's Day are their busiest days of the year. Phones are ringing off the hook, and flowers are flying out the door.

The day before Valentine's Day, Arizona Family Florist, a 1-800-FLOWERS franchise, is gearing up.

"This is our warehouse, this is where all the designing of all the floral happens, where the magic happens," says manager Katie Easley.

Armed with scissors and gloves, dozens of workers put the arrangements together as orders line up.

Roses are cut, balloons float overhead and there's a wall of ribbon to choose from. Manager Katie Easley says more than 60,000 roses will head out the door and it's not just bouquets.

"We do rose petals, so you can buy a box of petals to take home and sprinkle in the bathtub," says Easley.

This is where the magic is stored -- a 2,400 square foot cooler. They keep it at 48 degrees to keep the roses fresh. Thursday, 100 drivers will deliver all of this.

"They'll start showing up at 6 a.m., we'll start delivering as soon as we can get their cars loaded."

While some new items this year are hot sellers....

"The devil dog this year has actually been pretty popular."

Red roses are always top sellers. And for the guy who wants to wow, they have a 100 rose arrangement. It costs around $400.

No matter what size of bouquet you're getting, Arizona Family Florist is focused on one thing -- getting it to you, on time.

"It's valentine's day, one day to get it right."

A dozen red roses are $80 plus a $15 delivery fee. But you can save by picking it up in store. They have a deal running -- a dozen mixed roses, teddy bear and chocolate for $45. You can still order online.

Their front store here is open tomorrow at 6 a.m., it stays open until the last customer leaves, usually at 8 p.m. Arizona Family Florist is located in the northwest corner of 16th Street and I-17.
