Girl plays for big points on boys' basketball team

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Some call 9th grade basketball player Holly Marschke a trailblazer, although blazing that trail wasn't quite as graceful as her three-point shot.

Holly is the only girl on her school's boys' basketball team, but that's not the only thing that makes her a star.

Holly, who is deaf, currently is the starting point guard for the junior varsity team at the New York School for the Deaf.

It's a passion that her mother says has been cultivating since Holly was 2 years old.

Holly is its second highest scorer, averaging 8 points per game.

She says her greatest challenge is reminding her teammates that she's just like them.

Holly and her teammates play both both deaf and hearing schools.

Tuesday was the last game of the season. Holly said there was no doubt she was going to score big.

As for her future, she's aiming high. She wants to one day play for the WNBA.
