Building Explodes in Kansas City

Authorities are investigating how a gas main exploded in Kansas City, MO, causing a building to erupt into a massive fire.

Police say at least seven people are dead with three unaccounted for.

The incident happened in the city's upscale shopping district just after 7 p.m. eastern time

14 people were injured according to an official.

Numerous people were transported to local hospitals for treatment for broken bones and burns sustained in the explosion.

There was said to be a large smell of gas in the area after the explosion. Initial reports said that the gas main explosion was caused by a car accident, but it may have stemmed from an accident involving a utility contractor.
