MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. (AP) - The police commissioner of Mount Vernon, N.Y., says he has been fired after a dispute with the mayor.

Commissioner Carl Bell confirmed his termination after reporters saw him storm out of a City Hall meeting on Tuesday afternoon.

Bell will remain in the job through the end of the week. A replacement has not been named.

Bell accused the mayor of interfering with police work.

Mayor Ernie Davis declined to comment.
