Stress may be a part of everyday life, but too much or uncontrolled stress can lead to serious health problems.

On Thursday, Good Day NY focused on ways to relieve stress.

From methods children can effectively use to respond to pressures, to adults getting relief from centuries-old remedies, we took a closer look at various techniques.

Dr. Roshini Raj, a gastroenterologist, discussed the myths of stress and digestion:

  • stress does not cause ulcers; caused mostly by bacteria and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories
  • stress does not cause irritable bowel syndrome, but there is a connection; stress can make IBS worse

Dr. Harold Koplewicz, a child psychiatrist, discussed stress and children:

  • stress is not bad; it's an anxiety disorder health professional worry about; a stress that is so bad that grades drop or a person is not able to make it to work
  • there are 15 million American children and teens under 24 who have a psychiatric disorder
  • self medication is a dangerous problem among the age group
