Bensalem Gun Buy Back Program Nets Over 500 Firearms

BENSALEM, Pa. -
The Bensalem Police Department on Wednesday unveiled the results of its February gun buyback program, which netted more than 500 firearms.
The buy back event was held on February 6th and February 16.
The department says the two-day program resulted in 586 firearms that were turned in by area residents.
The Federal Drug Forfeiture provided the funds to hold the event and alleviated the burden to taxpayers.
The types of firearms included 9 assault rifles, 152 semi-automatic handguns, 134 handguns and 291 rifles.
Two stoles handguns were also recovered.
The program, which is similar to other gun buyback programs nationwide, paid owners for the voluntary surrender of their firearms with out any questions asked.
The township offered $200 for assault rifles, up to $100 for semi-automatic handguns and up to $50 for handguns, rifles and shotguns.
