BUCKS COUNTY, Pa. -

The accused shooter in a Bucks County apartment complex standoff appeared in court Wednesday, the day after police say he opened fire on them.

An 89-year-old neighbor was killed in the crossfire. On Wednesday, the Bucks County District Attorney's Office identified the woman as 89-year-old Marie Zienkewicz.

Andrew Cairns kept quiet as police escorted him into district court in Warminster Wednesday.

The 49-year-old had more to say once inside, where he was charged with attempting to murder six police officers.

Cairns asked the judge to release him on his own recognizance, but the judge laughed and instead order him held on $10 million bail, FOX 29's Claudia Gomez reports.

Cairns insisted he was innocent, but police say he's the reason an elderly woman is dead.

The standoff began around 8 p.m. Tuesday night at the back of an apartment complex on Street Road.

Investigators say Cairns' girlfriend called police and told them he was trying to shoot himself.

When officers arrived, they say he shot at them instead. Police, as a result, fired back.

Neighbors tell FOX 29 they were shocked to hear of the incident.

"Gunshots, for real? Like, in this neighborhood?" Brian Jannetti questioned.

The elderly victim who lived in the apartment below Cairns died in the crossfire. Investigators are now looking into who actually fired the fatal shot.
