NASA released new images and video of the asteroid half the size of a football field that passed by Earth last week.

Images of the asteroid, which passed by Earth on February 15, were captured by NASA's Goldstone Solar System Radar. The video is made up of 73 frames looped together.

Scientists say the asteroid, known as "2012 DA14," flew passed the Earth at nearly eight miles per second. At that rate, scientists say the asteroid would have struck the Earth with a force equivalent to hundreds of atomic bombs.

The asteroid flew passed the Earth on the same day an unrelated space rock blazed through Russia injuring thousands of people.

Thursday weather looks damp and stormy.  It will be mild and muggy to start with spotty showers early followed by afternoon and evening storms.  Highs in the upper 70s with winds out of the SW 5-10 mph. Some of the storms will produce locally heavy rain and gusty winds.

This system is from the same cold front that caused the midwest tornadoes. It will also usher in cooler air for the holiday weekend.
