Far South Side Metra riders warned of increasing armed robberies: Alert

Police are warning Far South Side Metra riders of an increase in armed robberies this month as passengers leave a Roseland neighborhood station.
The armed men follow passengers leaving Metra stations then rob them at gunpoint, according to a community alert from Area South detectives. The robbers flee on foot with the proceeds.
The robberies happened about 7:45 p.m. Feb. 6 in the 11400 block of South St. Lawrence Avenue, about 8 p.m. Feb. 9 in the 400 block of East 111th Street and about 7:50 p.m. Feb. 15 in the 500 block of East 114th Place, police said.
The suspects are described as 17- to 22-year-old black men with medium complexions, police said. They are between 5-feet-7 and 5-feet-10 and weigh 150 to 170 pounds.
One of the men wore a navy and cream jacket with a black ski mask, police said. He was carrying a black handgun.
