CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
Bond was set at $75,000 for a woman charged with a felony count of animal cruelty after allegedly stabbing her cousin's cat to death after a fight in the South Side home they shared.
About 8 p.m. on Friday, 31-year-old Tish Coleman was allegedly involved in a domestic disturbance in her home in the 6400 block of South Maryland Avenue, police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak said. The incident was a verbal dispute that turned physical, Kubiak said.
The two women wrestled and the fight went from inside an apartment out the door, police said. When Coleman was outside she continued to make a disturbance, according to police. A witness to the incident then went into the apartment and at the same time the victim's 1-year-old, brown and white cat wandered outside onto the back porch, according to Kubiak.
The cousin that Coleman had been fighting with later went outside to find Coleman gone, but blood on the stairwell and the cat bleeding from its left side, Kubiak said.
Police were called and a "flash" message broadcast over police radio with a description of Coleman, who was apprehended a short distance away, in the 6400 block of South Cottage Grove, Kubiak said. A knife was found on her, as well, Kubiak said.
Coleman has been charged with one felony count of aggravated cruelty to animals and one misdemeanor count of domestic battery, Kubiak said.
Coelman is next scheduled to appear in court March 1.
