Looking for some unique jewelry that no one else is wearing? You'll find it at a special auction in Scottsdale.
There are a lot of things you could choose from in this auction but this is the piece that has everything. It has history, it has religion, it has beauty, and it will probably go for $50,000.
Why is it so expensive? This cross belonged to some very important people back in the 18th century. Descendants of the wealthy and powerful Hapsburg family.
Kings and queens and emperors from that family owned land all over Europe. The cross was a thank you to the family from the Catholic Church.
"It was a gift from the pope to the holy roman emperor for help in fighting the forces of revolution during that period," says Nicholas Boehem, J. Levine Auction.
How did it end up in a Scottsdale auction house?
"It left Austria in 1960. I don't know how it left but I do know it left and it was sold in 1996."
And it's up for sale again.
Auctioneer Nicholas Boehem is in awe of the bejeweled cross and its history.
"Franz Joseph touched it, the Archduke Franz, it's amazing. It's amazing."
He thinks maybe even Napoleon touched it. The auction starts Thursday.
