Councilwoman Reacts To Cop's Acquittal, Judge's Remarks

PHILADELPHIA -

A former Philadelphia police lieutenant caught on tape, seeming to hit a woman in the face, is now a free man —and he wants his job back.

This video made headlines all across the country and cost the officer his job.

It showed Lt. Jonathan Josey hitting 39-year-old Aida Guzman in the face at a block party following the Puerto Rican Day parade.

The Philadelphia District Attorney's Office charged him with simple assault.

On Tuesday, a judge cleared Josey of the charge, agreeing with his defense that he was trying to knock a bottle out of her hand.

Josey now says he wants to rejoin the force.

But Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey says he will not reinstate Josey unless ordered to do so by an arbitrator.

Guzman said she was hurt by the verdict and called it a cover-up. She is likely to file a civil suit.

Joining "Good Day" on Wednesday morning to talk about the verdict was Philadelphia City Councilwoman Maria Quinones-Sanchez.

She shared her thoughts on the acquittal as well as reaction from the Latino community to some of the judge's remarks when the ruling was announced.
