Jodi Arias admits to telling lies in past

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX -

Another day of courtroom battles in the first degree murder of trial of Jodi Arias, who continued her testimony for the 12th day -- and admitted to some of her lies.

The prosecutor, Juan Martinez, is trying to show Arias planned the brutal murder of Travis Alexander, her ex-boyfriend back in 2008.

Prosecutors are also building their case, getting Jodi to admit she lied to everyone every step of the way.

They're also trying to build a circumstantial case.  Jodi brought a supply of gas in cans in her car so she wouldn't have to leave a paper trail buying fuel in Arizona, had access to a gun and more -- showing she planned to stab, shoot and slash Travis.

The cross-examination followed Arias from her grandparents' home in northern California to Alexander's home on June 4, 2008 -- where Jodi had sex with Travis for the last time.

Martinez wondered why Jodi didn't just take off then. She said it was about more than just sex.

When asked "What was the other reason?"  She replied, "To spend time together."

"And you want to spend time with someone you have described over and over as a bully?" asked Martinez.

Prosecutors spent most of the day spotlighting a series of lies told by Arias.  Most glaringly, the fanciful tale she told CBS' "48 Hours."  How she and Travis were attacked in his Mesa home by mysterious intruders, a man and woman.

"When I came to, I was laying next to the bathtub and Travis was on all fours on the tile," said Jodi.

She told the court she went into action hero mode.

"He left the room for a few minutes and she was in the bathroom standing over Travis and I charged her, I ran down the hall and pushed her and she fell over him.. landed near the sink."

Jodi said she escaped, but Travis wasn't so lucky.  Later she admitted she killed Travis in self-defense.

Martinez zeroed in on those earlier lies.

Martinez: "Did you lie to the detective?"
Arias: "Yes."
Martinez: "Did you lie to him on two occasions?"
Arias: "More than two, yes."
Martinez: "Did you lie to him on two dates?"
Arias: "Yes."
Martinez: "Did you lie to 48 Hours?"
Arias: "Yes."
Martinez: "Did you lie to people in Utah?"
Arias: "Yes."
Martinez: "Did you lie to Daniel Freeman?"
Arias: "Yes, everyone."

Arias says that since she has taken the witness stand, she has only told the truth.
