NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

An explosion left two people with minor injuries and leveled a house on Long Island on Wednesday afternoon.

Police confirmed that it happened Perry Street in the village of Hempstead.

An image from the scene showed what appeared to have been a two house that had pancaked on top of itself. A neighboring home had also sustained damage.

Emergency crews were combing through the debris looking for possible victims.

A National Grid representative said the utility did not find evidence of a natural gas leak.

The fire department said the house was in foreclosure and should have been vacant.

Police were investigating the possibility that vagrants may have been inside the house and were treating the location as a possible crime scene.
