SPRINGFIELD, NJ -

A New Jersey company is recalling more than 82,000 pounds of chicken and apple sausage due to possible bits of plastic inside.

Schmalz's European Provisions is recalling 12 ounce vacuum packages of Applegate Organics Chicken and Apple Sausage with use by or freeze by dates of March 17, 2013 on the package. The product will have an establishment number of P-5411 inside where the USDA mark of inspection is located.

The sausages were produced were produced on January 24 and distributed to retail stores nationwide. Several consumer complaints prompted the recall.
