DETROIT (WJBK) -

Demolition work being done on Detroit's west side is a breath of fresh air.  Blighted homes have been torn down, but in some cases there are now enormous, deep and dangerous holes where houses once stood.

"It's very dangerous.  It's ugly.  Just as bad as the houses that were standing there," said Vanessa McLittle.

She called Fox 2 before when the house next door to her home on Vaughn was overrun with garbage from people dumping at the site.  Now that abandoned home is gone, but what should be great news is not.

Neighbor Danny Brown said three holes on one street and one hole on another street haven't been filled.

"If they would just come and close the holes up, that's all we're asking," he said.

Neighbors said one hole has been there for two months, another for a month and a third for two weeks.  They're wondering when somebody is going to finish the job.

"I'm really scared for my kids because how deep the holes are and what could happen if they fall," said Beonkia Haynes.  "I'm pretty happy they knocked [the houses] down, but it's not safe for my kids."

A spokesperson for Mayor Dave Bing told us the fill dirt for two lots is coming next week.  For neighbors, it can't happen fast enough.
