Sinkhole Swallows Fla. Man Sleeping In Bedroom

Posted: Updated:
BRANDON, Fla. -

A Florida family woke up to a real-life nightmare Thursday night after a sinkhole opened under their home, swallowing one of their family members.

A 36-year-old man was sucked into the sink hole when it opened under a bedroom in this one-story home in Brandon.

The man remains trapped and his condition is unknown. Officials say the hole is too dangerous for rescue crews.

The hole is also swallowing the camera sent down to check on him.

The enormous hole is slowly consuming the house, extending 50 feet in all directions.

The victim's brother tried to pull him out, but the hole nearly swallowed him, too.

Rescuers were able to pull the brother to safety. Five adults and one child were in the home at the time.

The neighborhood has been evacuated.
