The entourage for Rapper French Montana was in no mood to talk to reporters after spending hours at police headquarters Friday.
They ended up there after gunfire rang out on Columbus Boulevard as Montana's tour bus pulled up following a late night concert on South Street. When the shots ended, one person was dead, another wounded.
"My friend died out here last night," one member of the rapper's entourage told Fox 29.
"We're victims, that all I gotta say," said the tour bus driver.
Homicide detectives say the tour bus, with Montana and Philly rapper Meek Mill on board, arrived at the Penns Landing Holiday Inn for an after party. A crowd surrounded the bus. Then a black four door sedan pulled up.
"The passenger window came down and several shots were fired from this vehicle," said Homicide Unit Captain James Clark.
Detectives say Montana, who's just starting a tour to launch his "Excuse My French" debut album, was inside the bus with Mill and was unharmed. 26 year old Jowann King of Flushing, New York was killed. A 28 year old unidentified man was shot, then driven to Jefferson Hospital in a bullet riddled car. He suffered a shoulder wound.
"There were at least two individuals in the crowd that pulled guns and fired back at this black four door sedan," Clark added.
Commissioner Charles Ramsey reacted to the wild gunfire.
"Bullets go anywhere, they don't have eyes," Ramsey said. "They can't see what the intended target is. It's just stupid all the way around."
At least nine shots were fired. Three guns were recovered. Police would not say what a search of the tour bus turned up or just who was the target .
"You had several hundred people out there, innocent bystanders, and it could have been even more tragic than it was," Clark said.
Clark said rapper Meek Mill was on the bus and detectives want to interview him at some point. Investigators are trying to locate surveillance video of the suspect's car. Cameras near the crime scene did not record any video. So far police have no strong leads and no arrests.
The two men who fired back at the suspect's car as it made a getaway, are still being questioned by Homicide Detectives. They may be associated with another Philadelphia rapper.
