Group protests store's St. Patrick's-themed apparel

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

A group gathered outside the Palisades Mall in Rockland County, N.Y., to protest items sold at a specialty store inside.

The group said the T-shirts and hats are about drinking beer, drinking too much, and drinking on St Patrick's Day and are extremely offensive.

They want the mall to ban the store, Spencers, from selling the offensive merchandise because they say the green garb denigrates Irish heritage.

The mall did not return our phone calls seeking comment.

But the store's lawyer said: "We do not feel our merchandise is offensive… But reflects the attitude of our core customers who are 18-24 year olds."

State Sen. David Carlucci said that he and others will "vote with our pocketbooks and not support offensive material like this."

Some Irish Americans here say they can take a joke but this merchandise does too far.
