Detroit police seek truck driver who killed 10-year-old boy

DETROIT (WJBK) -
Detroit police are seeking help from the public in catching the driver of a pickup truck who struck and killed a boy as he took out the trash.
Police say the boy was hit about 1:20 p.m. Sunday on a street near Eastland Shopping Center.
Family members identified the boy as 10-year-old Christopher Sandoval. Yale Sedgeman says he heard "a loud screeching sound" after his step-son went to take out the trash. He says Christopher was found in the street, bloodied and barely breathing. "The guy didn't have the courtesy to stop," said Sedgeman.
Police say the pickup driver stopped about a block away to dislodge a garbage can stuck under his truck, believed to be a red Dodge Ram from the early 2000s, then took off again.
On Monday, officials at Clintondale Middle School informed students of Sandoval's death. "We're just a family here trying to handle a tough situation," said Clintondale Principal Ira Hamden.
Those who knew Sandoval described him as a great student with an amazing sense of humor. A boy with a bright future taken way too soon.
