Chicago aldermen heard testimony Tuesday as they consider a ban on the sale of energy drinks in the city, but haven't yet voted.
Key witness Wendy Crossland, whose 14-year-old daughter died after drinking two energy drinks within a 24-hour period, was snowed in and unable to attend the city council meeting. Alderman Ed Burke is sponsoring the proposal.
The makers of energy drinks maintain their products are safe.
If the ban is approved, Chicago would become the first city in the country to stop the sale of the beverages.
