Valerie Harper, who played Rhoda Morgenstern on television's "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and its spinoff, "Rhoda," has been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer.

Good Day NY spoke with a physician who treats patients with this prognosis and asked him about the disease.

"The entire lining around the brain gets covered with tumor cells and in addition they cover the spinal cord.  It's one of the worst forms of cancer that we see.  Unfortunately, it's not curable," said Dr. Ezriel Kornel.

The 73-year-old actress is reportedly undergoing chemotherapy.

"You want to limit the symptoms; give the person a year instead of three months," said Dr. Kornel.
