Protesters continue fight against emergency manager in Detroit

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT (WJBK) -

A group of people protesting an emergency manager in Detroit picketed outside the Detroit Athletic Club Friday, hours before Gov. Rick Snyder was expected to deliver a speech in the building.

FOX 2's Roop Raj says protesters had planned to block traffic on the Lodge Freeway Monday morning prior to the speech. Michigan State Police, however, learned of the plans and sent cruisers to all nearby entrances ramps. Traffic was not snarled.

A group of protesters did slow traffic on I-75 near I-94 Thursday evening. Eight people received tickets for impeding traffic.

Snyder is expected to name an emergency manger next week to solve the city's $327 mill budget deficit.

City Council members will meet with Snyder on Tuesday to lay their final plan to avoid the state takeover.
