DETROIT (WJBK) -

The verdict in the Kilpatrick corruption case led to a bizarre situation at Wayne County Community College.  Police investigated a bomb scare Monday evening.

A bomb sniffing dog was brought in to search the campus.  Students and teachers were forced to evacuate after someone called in and threatened to blow up the building.

Rachel Madden and Candice Burks were sitting in their government class at the time.

"We see a security guard just come in the classroom, whisper something to teacher.  He walks out, and when he comes back in, he's like you've got to evacuate," Madden explained.

"Classes are canceled for the rest of the day.  They said come back tomorrow," said Burks.

Fire officials told Fox 2 the person made the call around 5:40 p.m. threatening to blow up the building because they weren't happy with the guilty verdicts in the Kwame Kilpatrick corruption trial.

With Detroit fire and Hazmat crews on standby, a police canine team searched every corner of the Fort Street Campus and soon realized it was a false alarm.

"I'm not surprised.  Kwame still has a lot of supporters in the city," said professor Cliff Tinsley.

He claimed this was the second bomb threat called into WCCC within the last few weeks.

"I'm disappointed because I was prepared for my class tonight," Tinsley said.
