There was no pope elected on the first vote by Roman Catholic Cardinals meeting for a papal conclave at the Vatican, as black smoke has been spotted above the Sistine Chapel.
On Tuesday, the 115 cardinals went into their private meeting inside the chapel to choose the next pope.
One of these men will be selected to lead the church.
The clerics were singing hymns and praying before they begin the deliberations. They also took an oath of secrecy as the deliberations go on.
A single vote is held on the first day. If black smoke is emitted from the chapel, it means the vote was inconclusive. White smoke means we have a new pope.
There's no clear frontrunner on who will lead the 1.2 billion strong Catholic Church and tend its many problems.
The cardinals are cut off from television, the Internet, and their Twitter accounts until a decision is reached.
It takes a two-thirds majority plus one that's 77 votes to elect the next pontiff. Up to four votes a day can be held starting Wednesday.
We'll have more coverage on the FOX 29 News at 5 and 6. Anchor Iain Page is reporting live from Rome all week long.
