BENSENVILLE, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A 56-year-old northwest suburban woman was killed Thursday morning when she was struck by a Metra train.

Milwaukee District West Line Train No. 2218 was running express from Wood Dale to Franklin Park when it struck a pedestrian about 7:35 a.m. near the Bensenville station, according to Metra spokesman Tom Miller.

The incident occurred near the intersection of Main and Addison streets, a release from Bensenville police said.

Gail Przybyla, 56, of the 1000 block of Argyle Street in Bensenville, was dead on the scene, police said. Przybyla, mother of five, was dropped off by her husband on one side of the tracks. She thought an approaching train was about to stop at the station, so she tried to run in front of it. The train was an express train and didn't stop until it was too late.

Train 2218 left Bartlett at 7:13 a.m. and was scheduled to arrive in Chicago at 8:18 a.m., Miller said. Both inbound and outbound Milwaukee West trains were delayed, with some of the delays lasting over an hour, because of the incident, according to Metra rider alerts.
