NEWARK, Del. -

The mother who is accused of leaving her two boys inside of a home investigators described as being in "deplorable condition" was arrested Thursday while walking to that very home.

Officers were conducting surveillance in the area  of her home on North Country Drive in Newark when they spotted her. The mom, Catherine Allex, was with two additional children who have since been placed with the Division of Family Services.

Allex faces two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Police say she was released on bond.

The search for Allex began Tuesday night, when officers were called to her home after reports that a child was left alone. Police say they found two boys, a 10-year-old and an 11-year-old, inside of the home. The boys told police their mom was at work, according to investigators.

Police say the home was condemned by the City of Newark Building Department.
