CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
The top ten were whittled down to nine finalists in "American Idol" Thursday night. Since the judges were not unanimous in voting to save Curtis Finch, he was voted off. Finch had been in the bottom two with Chicago's own Devin Velez -- who fortunately remains to compete another week.
On Friday, new movies will hit the theaters, beginning with a thriller starring Halle Berry as a 911 operator desperately trying to stop a serial killer kidnapper--before it's too late. "The Call" is pretty formulaic, but director Brad Anderson has crafted a well-paced, creepy thriller. Halle Berry very effectively uses only her voice both to comfort the victim--played by Abigail Breslin--and figure out where the vicious kidnapper is headed. "The Call" clicked with me, with great twist at the end.
Also opening is "The Incredible Burt Wonderstone"--another lame comedy totally wasting the talents of Steve Carell, Steve Buscemi and Jim Carrey. Carrell and Buscemi play secretly-feuding Vegas super-magicians faking a public friendship for the sake of their lucrative act and threatened by Carrey who plays a guerilla street magician. This is one you can forget.
Speaking of forgetting, while it took Demi Moore awhile to face facts that she wasn't going to win Ashton Kutcher back, the actress now is playing hardball as the ex-couple haggle over their divorce settlement.
My sources tell me that Demi wants major money to pay for the emotional pain Kutcher's straying cost her. Kutcher is also playing tough and it's currently something of a stalemate. Kutcher will likely blink first -- as he's getting pressure from current love Mila Kunis -- to put Demi behind him, and move on.
