MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) - An animal welfare official says the last dog remaining at a Long Island storm shelter is "loveable" and deserves a foster or "forever home" with lots of attention.

Nassau County SPCA spokesman Gary Rogers said Friday that Bruno was "ripped from his home" in Long Beach during Superstorm Sandy.

Bruno's owner has been living in his car and looking for work.

During their visits, Rogers says both the owner and the Rottweiler cry. Afterward, Bruno howls for half an hour.

Rogers hopes someone finds the man work so he and Bruno could live together again. But time's running out.

The emergency shelter is closing next week.

The floppy-eared pooch is pictured on the SPCA website.
