CHICAGO (AP) -- Jabari Parker added another honor to his spectacular prep career Monday.
Coming off last weekend's fourth consecutive Illinois high school championship, the Chicago Simeon Academy senior was named the nation's top male basketball player.
The 6-foot-8 McDonald's All-American, who has verbally committed to play at Duke, received the Morgan Wootten Player of the Year award. Taya Reimer, a 6-foot-3 standout from Hamilton Southeastern (Ind.) High School set to play at Notre Dame, won the award for female players.
"I just thank God for the talent and ability to be able to get such an honor," said Parker, who averaged 18.3 points for Simeon, which is Derrick Rose's alma mater. "Hopefully I can take this and give myself a little more motivation."
Reimer is the daughter of Ben Davis, a 1991 McDonald's High School All-American. They're the first father/daughter duo to be so honored.
An all-state forward, Reimer also played on a gold-medal U.S. under-17 world championship team. She is her school's all-time leading scorer.
"Being named a McDonald's All-American has always been one of my dreams," she said. "And to be player of the year is really a great experience."
Parker and Reimer were among finalists announced several weeks ago. Both are set to play at the April 3 McDonald's All American Game at Chicago's United Center.
