Sixers Announce Bynum Out for Season

Posted: Updated:

The Sixers announced tonight that Andrew Bynum will be out for the rest of the season and is slated for arthroscopic surgery on both of his knees Tuesday.

The surgery will be performed by Dr David Altchek of the Hospital of Special Surgery in New York.

A statement was released tonight by the team regarding Bynum's status.

"After many months of rehabilitation and consulting with numerous doctors, Andrew and the doctors treating him determined that this is the best course of action at this point. We will continue to monitor and evaluate his status moving forward," said Sixers General Manager Tony DiLeo.

Bynum came to the Sixers in a four team trade that involved the Denver Nuggets, Orlando Magic and Los Angeles Lakers. The trade sent Andre Iguodala to Denver and Dwight Howard from Orlando to Los Angeles.

Bynum is scheduled to be a free agent at the end of the season.
