NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Bail has been set at $25,000 for a Long Island middle school gym teacher accused of recording video of girls in the locker room with a hidden camera.

The New York State Police say that Thomas Sheppard, 27, of Speonk was a teacher at Westhampton Beach Middle School.

The investigation began on February 26, when school administrators reported suspicious activity in the gym locker room to police.

The state police got involved with an investigation on March 6th at the request of the Village of Westhampton police.

Police say evidence pointed to Sheppard, a four year employee of the school district, placing the video camera in the locker room.

Sheppard was arraigned on felony charges at the Village of Westhampton Beach Justice Court on Wednesday.  It was unclear if he had a lawyer.

Police say the investigation is continuing.   Anyone who has information is asked to contact the New York State Police at 631-208-9002.

The schools superintendent said Sheppard has been suspended until further notice. The district said it is continuing to cooperate with investigators.
