PHILADELPHIA -

Philadelphia 76ers center Andrew Bynum underwent bilateral arthroscopic surgery Tuesday and is expected to begin physical therapy by the end of the week, the team announced.

According to the Sixers, Bynum will remain non-weight bearing for approximately three weeks, after which he will spend an additional three weeks on crutches.

The team says Dr. David Altchek of the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York performed the surgery.

Bynum, who was added to the Sixers in a four team trade that involved the Denver Nuggets, Orlando Magic and Los Angeles Lakers, has yet to play for the team.

In the trade, Andre Iguodala was sent to Denver and Dwight Howard was traded from Orlando to Los Angeles.

Bynum is scheduled to become a free  agent at the end of the season.

News of Bynum's surgery broke Monday. On Monday night, the team issued a statement announcing that doctors determined the best course of action was to have the surgery.
