Sign out sheets and checking identification were among some of the ideas discussed during a Thursday city council meeting in Philadelphia on how to make city schools safer for students who are picked up by their parents or guardians.
The meeting comes two months after a 5-year-old was abducted out of her West Philly elementary school classroom. The girl was later found at a park hiding under a slide.
Council members discussed the possibility of requiring a person who is picking up a student to remove religious garb, such as head scarves, in some cases.
