Too much voting for `Idol` fan? Phone company threatens to end service

The next American Idol may owe a thank you to 72-year-old Ilene Henry.

"I've got it down to a science now and instead of counting the calls, I keep hitting redial and I timed it and I get in about fifty calls in ten minutes," said Ilene Henry, a Waukegan resident.

Henry is a grandmother who is retired and enjoying the simple pleasures of life which includes voting for her favorite American Idol contestants.

In some instances, Henry calls the toll free number to vote several hundred times an hour and that prompted a "Voice Service Termination Notice" letter from Comcast owned Xfinity.

"It said that they're going to terminate my service on the 5th of April," said Henry.

In the letter Comcast says Henry's dialing patterns were inconsistent with typical residential use and indicate the possible use of a dialing device, accusations she denies.

"It's supposed to be unlimited service and the woman last year when I talked to her she said you can get a business plan and I said I'm not running a business, I'm calling American Idol," said Henry.

"It is a lot of calls but that's her choice. Comcast advertises their digital voice service as unlimited and it doesn't say unlimited unless you call American Idol and you vote 10k times or 5k times or whatever the case may be," said Andrea Holt Batalia, Henry's granddaughter.

After reaching no resolution, out of frustration, Henry's granddaughter posted the letter from Comcast on her Facebook page.

"And we've got, last I checked, over a hundred shares and mostly positive… Some people might think it's crazy that she votes that many times for American Idol but that's what she likes to do, she's a die-hard fan," said Holt Batalia.

Late Wednesday, Comcast sent FOX 32 News a statement saying:

"To protect ourcustomers, Comcast will on occasion alert them when we see abnormal callingpatterns on their residential line triggered by excessive usage or repeatedauto-calls to the same number, which can indicate trouble on the line or thatthe residential service is being used for commercial purposes such asauto-dialing.  In this instance, however, a notice to terminate servicewas wrongfully issued.  We apologize to Ms. Henry for our error, and wework with her to assure that her service will continue."
