SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) -

Investigators say a man fleeing police died in a single vehicle crash along Evergreen Road late Thursday evening.

FOX 2's Roop Raj reports deputies from Oakland County's Alcohol Enforcement Team attempted to pull the man over near 13 Mile and Telegraph around 11:30 p.m. That's when they say he drove off, eventually crashing his vehicle into a tree on Evergreen just north of Eight Mile Road.

Family members identified the victim as 36-year-old Orlindo Burr. They say he had issues with alcohol in the past and believe he was trying to avoid a drunk driving offense.

They say Burr worked at Detroit Diesel.

Toxicology results weren't immediately available. The investigation is ongoing.
