The Talker: Oak Forest police start `Lock it or Lose It` program

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

"Lock 'em or lose 'em!" That's the message from Oak Forest police.

Police are checking parking lots and issuing warnings for unlocked cars or drivers who leave valuables out in plain sight.

The warnings are issued through the department's "Lock It or Lose It" campaign. They look like a ticket under your wiper blade, but it's actually just a simple reminder that you might be making it easy on thieves.

The police chief says he's trying to prevent crimes that are really very preventable.

Cops will also give "congratulations" messages to car owners who have their vehicles properly locked with valuables hidden away."
