PHOENIX (AP) - Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer has signed into law a ban on synthetic marijuana.
Brewer announced Wednesday that she was backing the legislation that would expand the state's definition of dangerous drugs.
Brewer said in a statement that the law will give police officials another tool to go after the production and use of spice, K2 and other synthetic drugs.
Law enforcement officials had said the previous state ban on spice had little impact because distributors of synthetic drugs can make minor chemical changes to try to stay ahead of the law.
The new law expands the state's definition of dangerous drugs to include chemical configurations that make up synthetic drugs.
Last year, President Barack Obama signed a federal law banning synthetic marijuana and other such drugs.
