Ousted juror No. 5 makes appearance in court

Posted: Updated:

Days after she got kicked off the case, the woman known as juror No. 5 was back in court to watch the Jodi Arias trial proceedings. But this time, she was a spectator.

The woman was removed from the jury this week for talking to fellow members of the panel about the case, which is against the rules. She drove off after court without speaking to our news crews.

The courtroom was abuzz with her return. At this point, we don't know why she decided to come back.

"Ladies and gentlemen juror number 5 is in the courtroom to observe as a member of the public.   I want to remind you of the admonition that continues to apply and you should have no contact with juror number 5 until the trial is over," said Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Sherry Stephens at the start of the afternoon session.

Juror No. 5 sat as far away from the jury as she could. Court cameras caught shots of her sitting in the audience, listening to the afternoon's testimony.

Everyone wanted to know, what is she doing here? She can watch the trial online or on TV. Why come into the courtroom? Especially when he released a statement asking for privacy.

Juror No. 5 was dismissed after the defense claimed she made statements that weren't "fair or impartial."

During Thursday's hearing, the judge rejected a motion by the defense to have the jury sequestered because of the intense media coverage surrounding the case. That motion failed.

FOX 10's Troy Hayden talked with our legal experts about how strange her appearance was.
