Wilmington Police were contacted Friday after a worker performing maintenance on gas pumps found credit card skimmers attached to two of the pumps.
A skimmer is a device attached to a credit card reader. It records the card information and supplies it to a third party. This information is used for fraudulent purposes and is illegal.
Investigators do not know how long the skimmers have been in place. They also do not know how many customers have been affected. They are asking all customers who pumped gas at the Shell Gas Station on 4201 N. Market Street to check their accounts.
If customers see any fraudulent activities, they are asked to contact police.
Detectives are currently reviewing surveillance footage and other records as the investigation continues.
