Funeral Services Set For Fallen Firefighting Captain Goodwin

Investigators have a heavy task of pinpointing what spark flames that killed veteran firefighting Capt. Michael Goodwin on Saturday.

He died battling the flames in a Queen Village fabric store. He has been with the department for almost 30 years.

FOX 29's Steve Keeley reported Monday morning that 36 hours after the first alarm was sounded at 5:33 p.m. Saturday, Fourth Street is still shut down from Catharine Street to just below Bainbridge Street.

Investigators here have been working around-the-clock since Saturday but still don't know what set the fire off.

On Tuesday at noon, there will be a memorial service at City Hall marking one year since two Philadelphia firefighters were killed in another building-collapse during a warehouse fire last April 9. Members of the fire department now plan to honor all three men who are so sorely missed.

"Relatives, friends, members of Philadelphia Fire Department Local 22 and all first responders are invited to share in Mike's Life Celebration Wednesday from 5:00- 9:00 PM and Thursday morning from 9:00 to 10:45 AM at John F. Givnish of Academy Rd. 10975 Academy Rd. Michael's Life Celebration Service will be held at 12:00 Noon at St. Michael's Lutheran Church, 2139 E. Cumberland St. Interment Hillside Cemetery, Roslyn, PA. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Mike's memory to the Firefighters Widow Fund c/o Local 22, 415 N. 5th St. Phila, PA 19123 would be appreciated.
