2 semis involved in dust-related collision at I-10 and Picacho Peak

Posted: Updated:

Two semi-trailer trucks and two vehicles were involved in a collision on I-10 westbound at Picacho Peak.

DPS says the 2 p.m. crash at milepost 213 is related to the dust storm. The westbound direction is restricted to just one lane. Four people have been taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A separate crash in the same area has blocked the left lane of I-10 eastbound.

Also on I-10, but in the far west valley near Verrado Way, a truck carrying produce got picked up by the wind and tossed on its side. No one was hurt, but the crash forced DPS to close one of the eastbound lanes heading into Phoenix for the cleanup.

Motorists along I-10 between Phoenix and Tucson have been dealing with dusty conditions and wind gusts up to 60 mph. The National Weather Service has issued a blowing dust advisory and high wind warning for portions of southern Arizona until 8 p.m.

Also, the state Department of Transportation temporarily closed a 34-mile stretch of Interstate 40 near Winslow because of high winds. It has since reopened.

Also due to the strong winds, APS crews had to go out to the area of Cave Creek and Carefree Highway to repair downed power lines.
