Man threatens ‘Columbine-type’ attack on courthouse

WHEATON, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A west suburban man has been charged with threatening a "Columbine-type" shooting at the DuPage County Courthouse.

Daniel P. McDade, 31, of Lombard was out on bond from a DUI charge and had been ordered by a judge to abstain from drugs or alcohol, and to stay in the Illinois, a release from the DuPage County Sheriff's office said.

When he was notified that he was to appear at the courthouse in Wheaton on April 4 for a drug test, he became upset and threatening messages on Facebook, a statement from the sheriff's office said.

In the posts, McDade threatened to shoot several people, including children, police officers and officials at the courthouse in a Columbine-type shooting, according to police.

Sheriff's detectives began investigating after a citizen tipped them off to the threats, the release said.

On April 2, detectives learned McDade was in Denver, Colo., and notified Denver police, who found him living in a hotel and arrested him.

McDade, of the 2700 block of Highland Avenue in Lombard, faces felony counts of threatening a public official and disorderly conduct, the statement said.

He is being held in the Denver County Jail awaiting extradition to DuPage County.
