'Memphis' musical at Fisher Theatre now through April 21

DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) -

The award-winning Broadway musical, 'Memphis' is at the Fisher Theatre in Detroit now through April 21. The story takes place in the segregated 50s in smoky halls and underground clubs. A white radio DJ, Huey Calhoun, has a vision to change the world. He meets and falls in love with a black club singer who is ready for her "big break." The show is filled with laughter, emotion, rock 'n' roll and a thrilling tale of fame and forbidden love.

Directing the musical is Tony nominee Christopher Ashley ('Xanadu'), and choreography is by Sergio Trujillo ('Jersey Boys').  

'Memphis' won four 2010 Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Original Score (David Bryan and Joe DiPietro), Best Book (Joe DiPietro) and Best Orchestrations (David Bryan and Daryl Waters).
The show features a brand new Tony winning score with music by Bon Jovi's keyboardist David Bryan. The lyrics are by Bryan and Joe DiPietro.

'Memphis' performance times are:
Tuesday through Saturday, 8 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday matinees, 2 p.m.
Sunday evening, 7:30 p.m.

The Fisher Theatre is located at 3011 W. Grand Blvd. in Detroit.
